My God (LORD)
“Elohim is the Hebrew word for God that appears in the very first sentence of the Bible. He is the one who began it all thru Creation. This ancient name for God contains the idea of God’s creative power as well as His authority and sovereignty. Elohim is the plural form of El or Eloah, one of the oldest designations for divinity in the world. The Hebrews borrowed the term El from the Canaanites. It can refer either to the true God or to pagan gods. Elohim is used more than 2,500 times. Its plural form is used not to indicate a belief in many gods but to emphasize the majesty of the one true God. He is the God of gods, highest of all.”
I said to the Lord, “You are my Lord; I have no good besides You.” Psalm 16:2
But as for me, I trust in You, O Lord, I say, “You are my God.” Psalm 31:14
You are my God, and I give thanks to You; You are my God, I extol You. Psalm 118:28
“I said to the Lord, “You are my God” Psalm 140:6
“Teach me to do Your will, For You are my God; Let Your good Spirit lead me on level ground.” Psalm 143:10
Jesus said to her, “Stop clinging to Me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father; but go to My brethren and say to them, ‘I ascend to My Father and your Father, and My God and your God.’” John 20:17
The following verses are from the mouth of David. (Psalm 18:1-3) They were also recorded in the account of the battle to which it refers in 2 Samuel 22:3. Here we find many words David used to describe how God expressed His love and care for His people. They apply to us today.
“I love You, LORD, my strength. ”The LORD is my rock, my fortress, my deliverer, my God my rock, in whom I take (my) refuge, my shield, the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. I call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised, and I am saved…
Let’s fill in the blank with these key words and I will add their meaning:
My Rock: the firm foundation on which I can stand and not be moved or shaken
My Fortress: an impenetrable fort that many may attack but cannot penetrate. I am safe there.
My Deliverer: Just like David, when I call on God and trust in Him, God will deliver me thru storms and enemy territories. He can part any sea of anxiety and depression like the Red Sea.
My Refuge: I can run to Him like children to their moms or dads or in the analogy Jesus’ used, like baby chicks that run under the shelter of their mother hen’s wings. And I am safe.
My Shield: A shield is a weapon of defense that protects me from the arrows of my enemies, especially our fiercest enemy satan and his demons. The shield can deflect words meant to inflict pain or cause me harm.
My Horn of Salvation: Horns were the strength and power of animals in fighting and protection; Jesus is called the horn of salvation of Israel; David is saying God is our strength.
My Stronghold: also called high place of security where enemies cannot reach us
God My Listener and Deliver
“The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears, and delivers them out of all their troubles. The Lord is near to the brokenhearted, And saves those who have a contrite spirit. Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivers him out of them all.” Psalm 34:17-19
My Shepherd
“The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.” Psalm 23: 1
My Comforter
“When my anxious thoughts multiply within me, Your comfort delights my soul.” Psalm 94:19
“I, I Myself, am He who comforts you. Isaiah 51:12
And I will pray the Father, and He shall give you another Comforter (Jesus was the first one), that He may abide with you forever; But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in My name, He shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. John 14: 16, 26
God, My Savior (Salvation)
Behold, God is my salvation, I will trust and not be afraid; For the LORD GOD is my strength and song, and He has become my salvation.” Therefore you will joyously draw water from the springs of salvation. Isaiah 12: 2-3
(Mary) “and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior,” Luke 1: 47
Jesus My Savior
“for today in the city of David there has been born for you a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.” Luke 2: 11
“For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all men, instructing us to deny ungodliness and worldly desires and to live sensibly, righteously, and godly in the present age, looking for the blessed hope and the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Christ Jesus, who gave Himself for us to redeem us… Titus 2: 11-14
Jesus My Deliverer from hell
“…how you turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God and to await His Son from heaven, whom He raised from the dead—Jesus our deliverer from the coming wrath.” 1 Thessalonians 1:9b-10
Exhortation for Christians to remember:
(1) “Whose you are” instead of who you were before Jesus saved you and
(2) the power to receive these promises from God resides in the extent to which you surrender yourself to the Holy Spirit.
The Apostle Paul said, But (Jesus) said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is perfected in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly in my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest on me. That is why, for the sake of Christ, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.
For Christ’s sake,
